Plan around one payoff date, not a small headline fee

A traditional payday loan is generally a small, short-term loan with a single payment due around the next payday; exact product design and availability depend on state law. A fee that looks modest per $100 can consume a large share of the next paycheck because principal and fee come due together. Before considering one, write down the exact payoff date and whether the account will still cover housing, food, utilities, and other obligations after repayment.

1500Loans offers an online loan-request path, but it does not establish that a payday lender or a payday product will be available for a request. Start at the application page only after checking the live disclosures and your state's rules. Do not treat this page as a payday-loan offer or a state availability statement.

Calculate the lump sum in dollars

For a transparent example, suppose a hypothetical lender charges $15 per $100 borrowed for 14 days. On $300, that fee is $45 and the single scheduled payoff is $345. On $500, the fee is $75 and the payoff is $575. The CFPB uses this fee structure to illustrate an APR of about 391% for 14 days. That APR annualizes a short-term charge; it does not mean the borrower pays 391% of principal in two weeks. State laws and actual contracts differ, and these numbers are not an offer.

Hypothetical principalFee at $15 per $100One scheduled payoff
$300$45$345
$500$75$575

Ask what happens if the debit is returned, the due date falls before the next deposit, or state law limits fees or extensions. Never rely on a rollover unless the written contract and state law expressly permit it.

Make sure the due-date paycheck can carry the payoff

Project the checking balance on the repayment date after the debit: opening balance plus dependable income, minus rent, utilities, food, insurance, existing loan payments, and the proposed payoff. If the balance turns negative or forces another loan, the one-payment structure may not fit the need. Account for automatic debit authorization or a postdated check and ask how to revoke or change payment instructions under applicable law.

Write down the next two pay periods, not just the next one. A payment that leaves too little for the following week can trigger overdraft fees or missed essential bills even when the first debit clears.

Verify the product and rules where you live

Payday lending rules vary by state; some jurisdictions prohibit the product or limit amount, fees, duration, renewals, or collection methods. A lender's page for one state does not establish the terms in another. Verify the exact legal entity, license or registration information where required, amount, finance charge, APR, due date, number of payments, and any extension rule in your own contract.

  • Confirm the payoff in dollars and the date it is due.
  • Ask whether an installment alternative exists and how its total cost compares.
  • Check state regulator guidance for your residence.
  • Keep the signed agreement and payment receipts.

For state examples, read the California regulator guidance and New York credit guidance. The $1,500 state examples explain why an amount and a payday product cannot be assumed to fit every state.

Try to reduce the amount due before borrowing

Call the biller before the due date and ask whether it can move the date, accept partial payments, or waive a late charge. Check whether an employer or credit union offers a lower-cost, clearly documented small-dollar option and review membership conditions. A card cash advance, overdraft, or another short-term loan also carries costs; compare total dollars and repayment timing rather than labels. If a payday payment already appears unaffordable, contact the lender promptly and seek help from your state regulator or a qualified nonprofit counselor.

Borrowing again to meet a prior single-payment obligation can repeat the cash shortfall. Treat a new loan as a new cost decision, not as proof that the first loan was manageable.

Questions about payday repayment

Are payday loans repaid in one payment?

A traditional payday loan is generally structured as a lump-sum payoff due around the next payday, but products and state rules vary. Read the exact contract schedule.

How much would a $300 payday loan cost at $15 per $100?

Under that hypothetical fee, the charge is $45 and the scheduled one-payment total is $345. Actual fees and permitted products depend on the state and contract.

Does 1500Loans provide payday loans?

This page does not confirm a payday lender, payday product, or state eligibility. 1500Loans accepts online loan preferences; any resulting offer must be identified and reviewed separately.

Can I extend or roll over a payday loan?

Do not assume so. Extension rules vary by state and contract, and another fee can increase the cost. Verify the applicable law and ask the creditor in writing.
